January's Maker Challenge is here!
January Maker Challenge
January 8th, 2017,
This months Maker Challenge is a Hand Cranked or Hydraulic Crane.
The rules are as follows:
Parents or other adults are welcome to help.
You may use any materials you choose. No restrictions.
The crane must feature a crank or hydraulic system by which students use their own strength to power the machine in order to lift the item off the floor. The design may not feature electronics of any sort.
The crane must be designed to raise a 500g ( about ½ lb.) weight at least 4 inches off the floor without tipping or being held by hand. I might recommend a soup can as a counter weight.
The crane does not have to have wheels or tracks to move. Thats a nice add on if you’d like to go that extra step however.
As always, this competition is not mandatory. The goal of this is to pique student interest and challenge themselves.
There is no prize for this challenge but all participating students will have time to show off their design and tests it’s abilities on January 26th.
As always, if there are materials that the school can help you with, please do not hesitate to ask!
Due Date: All projects must be ready and at school on January 26th, 2018 no later than 10:00 AM.
