Update for February 2018
February 5th, 2018
PLEASE SEE NEWSLETTER SECTION ON THIS SITE FOR FEBRUARY'S CALENDAR
It seems like we are still in the grips of winter, which is great considering all of the winter activities that we have planned for the month of February.
Over the next couple of weeks, the school will be skating on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Botha Arena. A schedule has been sent home, but you can always check it out on the website as well. We appreciate any parents, especially in the younger grades, that can find the time to help with tying skates. This allows us to make the best use of our time on the ice.
Also, for the next couple of weeks, Botha 5-6’s will be headed to SES on Monday’s to participate in some 3 on 3 basketball as a warm up before we start scheduling games with other schools. We will update you on more scheduled games soon.
On Wednesday, February 21st, all of the Botha kids will travel to Alliance to participate in our annual ski day. Parents are welcome to take part in this day as well. It’s always one of my favourite days of the year. Unfortunately, this year, we were only able to schedule one ski day at Alliance, but we will be taking Grade 1-6 students to Canyon Resort in Red Deer on March 1st for a day of tubing!
Pink Shirt Day will be held on February 28th. This is a day where students can http://moziru.com/images/skiing-clipart-family-skiing-12.jpg wear pink in order to show their commitment to taking a stand against bullying. This year, we have a special Botha School pink shirt for all of our students as well. February 23rd will be our annual Hockey Day in Botha. We invite all parents and community members to take part in this day as well. We will be having a free hot dog lunch (all are welcome) as well as lots of hockey related learning and activities, including an on ice skills competition with members of the Stettler Lightning.
A big thank you to all of the families that participated in our Family Literacy Week photo contest. The response was overwhelming and we will definitely seek to continue this in the future. Thanks as well to parents that we able to make it out to our Literacy Lunch.
Our Maker Challenge for this past month was very impressive. Some of the crane designs have been posted on the website. I thanks parents for your time in helping your children work on the projects. The students really enjoy displaying their work and all students really enjoy seeing the interesting designs and creations. This month, our Maker Challenge will be a balloon powered dragster. Please see the outlines for this challenge included in today’s “mail” as well.
A reminder, if you are a parent with students in Grades 4-6, you should have received some mail from Alberta Education. This is the accountability pillar survey. If you can find the time to ill out this survey, we really appreciate it. This remains one of the ways which we can get your feedback regarding what is going well and what we can improve on.
Finally, The Botha School Society is selling tickets for an evening with famous Canadian comedian Jimmy the Janitor. Tickets are $40 each and includes a light supper as well as a dance to follow. A table of 8 can also be purchased for $280. For further information or to purchase tickets, please contact Megan McPhee at 403-740-3097
As always, thank you for your continuing support and all the best in the month of February!
